FryskLab neemt Presidential Citation for Innovative International Library Projects van American Library Association in ontvangst
Afgelopen maandagavond was een gedenkwaardig moment voor ons. Tijdens een feestelijke ceremonie in de monumentale bibliotheek van Chicago mochten we de Presidential Citation for Innovative International Library Projects van de American Library Association in ontvangst nemen. Deze werd uitgereikt door ALA-president Julie Todaro.
Ons rest niets anders dan te zeggen dan dat we daar ontzettend dankbaar voor zijn. Het is daarnaast tegelijkertijd een bevestiging dat we met iets waardevols bezig zijn, maar ook dat we telkens weer onze lat een stukje hoger moeten leggen.
In die zin zijn het reacties als deze van Peter Bae (werkzaam bij de universiteitsbibliotheek van Princeton) via Facebook die ons voortdurend weer prikkelen die volgende stap te moeten zetten:
“I was thinking about the Maker’s Space as a place where people could get exposed to the new technologies, but after listening to friends (if I dare to call them as friends) from the Netherlands, I realized that the technology is only a small part of the whole movement. Connecting the Maker’s Space only with the technology is like associating the library with information, alone. Technology and Information are the tools to stimulate creativities and critical thinking. With them, Maker’s Space and Library can get together people and start conversations. We, librarians, are the ones that provide the space and tools that make the conversation and creativity started.”
